Tysha Schmitz

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” One day at a time. I think of this often. Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.

Let’s start off by telling us a bit about where you are from, grew up and your journey to this point.

I am a Native, born and raised in AZ. Grew up in Phoenix. Lived most of my time in Mesa, AZ. I have always loved this industry, admired all the beautiful woman and Art that has evolved. I knew that I needed to work on my health and working out to be more confident in myself.

What initiated you to get back into modeling four months ago.

My husband! He showed me a workshop that had been posted by Rob Cano on Instagram, and all the coaching models that were involved. He said, “you can do this”. At this point I had been working out harder and was more confident.

When your not in front of the camera, what can we see Tysha Schmitz doing on a day to day basis?

I work a full time job, 40 hours a week and help my husband with his shops billing. M-F You can find me at the gym bright and early. I also have 2 children that are still in school.

I know you and your husband Mike like to work out early am.  Do you have specific tips to perfecting a solid regime at the gym?

Yes, we work out at 5 am! So early right, well this has worked for us now going on 8 months. Every 4-6 weeks we change up our workouts and our meal plans. We started meal prepping, and that stepped it up to a new level. The right food with the right work outs make all the difference.

When selecting your artist and artwork what guides you in your decision making process.

Style and technique. Is this their passion, do they love what they do?

What are some of your favorite artists in the tattoo and art world.

I recently started following Josh Duffy, and Carlos Torres I admire their art and technique, you can tell how passionate they are about their work. I also would like to recommend AJ Larson out of C.U. LOOK’N INK and Andres Ortega out of Knucklehead Tattoo, These are my two go to artists Located in Arizona.

We always like to ask the question… if you could place yourself in a painting or art scene what would you choose and why?

I would choose a place of waterfalls with a garden of flowers everywhere. Reminds me of peace, no worries, and all is calm.

Are there any conventions we can catch you at this year?

Yes!! I plan to attend the Body Art Expo in February, The Musink Fest in March, and Viva Las Vegas in April. As I’m sure more conventions will arise, I plan to be there.

Most memorable quote that has helped shape your life today?

This is the quote that’s helped me evolve.

If you could disappear for a week, where would you go and what would you be doing?

I consider myself simple, I would love to just sit a week on a beach , I have always loved the beach. The smell of the salty water, the wind in my face, the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm.

An image that inspires me is Girl with a Balloon by Bansky with the words “there is always hope”. I’d love to have a tattoo of it someday when I decide where and how I’m going to get it. It’s so simple but what it means is so much bigger than any words can describe. It’s something this world needs to focus on much more.
